Everyone involved must know precisely what to do and how to do it. The information has to be readily accessed, clear, concise and absolutely unambiguous .
During an emergency, there is no time for reading irrelevant detail – the reader has to be able to quickly and confidently identify the information that relates to the current situation and to his/her role in it.
This is a challenge – one that can be addressed only by a systematic approach to:
► Defining the scope of the plans;
► Analysing the various audiences, and the conditions under which
they will need the information;
► Determining the most appropriate delivery medium;
► Creating a robust document architecture that facilitates quick
access;
► Establishing navigational aids that lead the reader unambiguously to
the information they need, when they need it;
► Writing and presenting the procedural material in an easy-to follow,
hard-to-get-wrong way; and
► Where necessary, producing separate versions for different target
audiences.
